“The Vine” exists in only one version: an instrumental “early rough mix” found on disc 3 of Cherry Red’s 4 x CD “expanded Digipak edition” of Reformation! Post-TLC (2020). It is credited to “The Fall”. As far as we know, the song was never played live.
The Track Record describes “The Vine” as “Justย synth and drums vamping over a simple bass riff.”
The track presumably dates to c.2007, but I have dated it here to 2020 since that was when it was officially released. The liner notes of the “expanded edition” of Reformation! Post-TLC are completely free of any useful information about the recording. We don’t know when or where it was recorded, or who plays on it.
We can only guess as what the title represents. There is a pub on Kennedy Street, Manchester called the “Vine Inn”. Maybe it’s something to do with that.
